Lauren and Corey met online on Coffee Meets Bagel in 2018. Both of them grew up boating, and Lauren’s profile mentioned that she earned her boating license at ten years old. Of course, Corey had to swipe right, and the rest is history! Three years later, he popped the question in Montauk, their favorite date spot. I was excited when this sweet couple asked me to plan their backyard wedding in New York. When I first meet with my couples, I love to dive into learning more about them and their relationship. As a wedding planner, I don’t just design beautiful events, but I focus on creating an environment that complements the couple. It is all about creating a day that is authentically theirs!
Backyard Wedding in Lloyd Harbor, New York
It was important to Lauren and Corey to remain true to their relationship throughout the planning process. They didn’t want their wedding day to feel too formal, and their main priorities were delicious food and drinks, waterfront views, and surrounding themselves with loved ones. At first, they couldn’t decide between a wedding in Montauk or a backyard affair at Corey’s parents’ home. In the end, it all came down to a cherished family tradition! Corey’s sisters were both married at the family home, and the couple decided that it would be most meaningful to follow in their footsteps.
As a result, our team was able to completely customize their event! We built a “venue” from scratch inside a gorgeous sailcloth tent, with hanging rattan lanterns and rented tables and chairs from Please B Seated. We dressed the tablescapes with crisp light blue linens, a statement napkin from BBJ La Tavola, and floral centerpieces from Bella Flowers with a mix of pink roses and green hydrangeas. When you have such a gorgeous backdrop, you can really pull the color inspiration right from the surroundings! The look was clean and elegant, perfect for a seaside wedding!
Thoughtful Touches for Guests at a Summer Wedding
Because Lauren and Corey’s backyard wedding took place in July, the couple took extra steps to ensure their guests would be comfortable. They had sunglasses custom-made with their names and wedding date to protect everyone’s eyes during the ceremony. Then, they ordered flip-flops in various sizes for a comfortable alternative to heels and dress shoes! They were perfect for the rocky backyard terrain and dancing the night away. While it may require a bit of extra work to include details like these in your day, it’s so worth it to create a welcoming environment for your guests!
